Burn Calories Without the Workout!

Get Lucky

Sexual activity burns around 300 calories an hour. Just another excuse to make sure you are getting the deed done on the regular.  Getting the deed done?  Seriously? Could ya be a bit more enthusiastic?


Go Shopping

Online shopping is convenient but it doesn't burn any calories. Hit the mall instead. You'll burn about 150 calories an hour. And you'll look better in whatever you buy.  Doesn't work well if your budget won't cooperate. :(


Take a Pill


A recent Iowa State University study revealed that taking a glutamine supplement after a meal makes you burn 20 more calories than usual. Oh wow...take a pill and lose a whole 20 calories?


Tip Toe

Instead of standing around, lift up on the balls of your feet. Hold for as long as you can and then lower. It's a classic Pilates strength building exercise. You'll burn a few calories when you do it and build bigger calf muscles that burn more calories over the long term.


Watch Less Netflix

Studies show that people who cut their TV time in half burned around 120 more calories a day. It's another in a long list of reasons to shave off some boob tube time.


Walk and Talk (and Text)

Vow to never sit still while you're on the phone. Walk around while texting, jiggle your leg while you're playing a game. You'll give your metabolism a boost and burn a few more calories at the same time. Walking while texting is not really very safe!


Chew Gum

It burns a miniscule amount of calories if you chew on a regular basis. But gum also keeps you from snacking all day which saves more calories than you'll burn. No comment.


Fidget

Fiddle with your pen, tap your leg or bounce a little in your chair. According to the Mayo Clinic, fidgeters burn 350 calories more a day than non-fidgeters.  I fidgeted as a child and got called out for it!  They shoulda let me continue!


Take the 5-Minute Challenge

Spend the last five minutes of every hour up and moving around. Straighten up, go to the copy machine, just get moving. By the end of the day you'll have the equivalent of an hour and 20 minutes of walking under your belt -- and around 170 calories -- without even going outside. Worth a try!


Find Something Hilarious


Laughing for just 15 minutes burns up to 50 calories. For your daily "workout" pop in your favorite comedy and get ready to feel the burn. Have to wonder about this one...as much as I laugh, I ought to be skinny!


Ankle Weights
The average person burns 5 to 8 extra calories per mile walked while wearing ankle weights. Even sedentary people manage to walk a mile a day between work, home and trips to the fridge. But I ought to burn those extra calories hauling my butt and thighs even without the weights.

Clean the House

You've got to do it anyway. Roughly 30 minutes of house cleaning burns around 120 calories. Who says I gotta clean it? LOL

Drink Ice Water

Did you know that drinking icy-cold water burns 9.25 calories (per glass) more than drinking room temperature water? Get your full 8 glasses a day and those calories add up.


Get a Bike
You've been thinking about it already. Gas prices are abominably high and biking is just super cool. Take it to work, to run errands or just to enjoy a Saturday afternoon. A 30 minute ride to the mall burns around 150 calories.


Take the Stairs

The average person burns 9 calories a minute while they're walking up the stairs. Convert a minute of elevator time to 5 minutes of stair time and you can burn an extra 300 calories a week. How many times is someone riding on the elevator?






I have to wonder about some of these since they don't give details...for example, what size are the ankle weights, how much TV is someone watching, etc.

    Okay the ice water thing...that has to be because you would need to pee constantly, you burn more calories running to the loo!
