Good Gravy!  If that is what “plus-size” looks like, I am afraid to ask Cosmo what “size” they consider me…maybe hippo-size or double-hippo-size?   Crying face

Seriously…I have enough trouble with my body image and so do many of my friends without being made to feel even worse with labels like this!

beauty all shapes

beauty

a smile is the most beautiful curve

  2. Beauty doesn't have a size. Beauty has an attitude. Did you see the photo shopped Taget add? Disgusting

  4. This is so true! The media screws with our heads when we are young and impressionable and it takes a lifetime to forget the lies!

    1. Hey Minelle...they are still screwing with our heads...do you see anyone of your age/size modeling clothes that are age appropriate for you? No. Pfft!

  6. plus /pləs/
    noun
    1. short for plus sign.
    2. an advantage.
"knowing the language is a decided plus"

synonyms: advantage, good point, asset, pro, (fringe) benefit, bonus, extra, attraction; informal perk; formal perquisite "one of the pluses of the job"

Do I need to add the definition for "average?" No. 'Nuff said.

Hugs from the gal who spent most of her life as a skinny minnie, finally joined the plus ranks several years ago, and is moving into super-plus realm. I've passed my point of what feels good and healthy to me, but being too skinny and unable to gain weight for decades (unless pg) was no picnic either. I think Robyn Lawley's "plus" looks like a very good and healthy place to be for me. I know I felt my best when I was around her size, but everybody has their own best size where they feel healthiest and happiest. That should be the only goal, and the only measure by which we view ourselves or are viewed by others.

    Thanks, Cat.

    1. LOL Irishey...loved the definitions! I totally agree with you. Ya know, it's not only the media that try to dictate what beauty is...look at fashion designers and Hollywood! It really is sad.

  7. Hi Cat, as the father of two daughters I always preached to them when they were young that the "models" were way too thin and men liked a girl with some substance and a decent appetite. Thankfully, neither of them had any problems with anorexia, however when Nina was young she did. It took a lot of re-assuring but she now likes her size (and so do I). So I do understand and agree that this crazy idea that girls should be the size of Twiggy is not only offensive, it is dangerous!

Also, thanks for the question. I had to think a lot about it, but just finished my answer. It was really fun!

    Belssing to you...

    1. Hey George...Twiggy and the photographer that made her famous have a lot to answer for. So happy you were able to override society and implant a positive self image in your daughters and Nina!

Loved your answers to the house party question...I want to attend also!

  9. Great post Cat! :) The media should be ashamed of themselves. I could go on and on but I won't- for a change! :) Many hugs,

  10. beautiful message cat. It is sad that so many of us have such body issues. I started having body images as a child and have been struggling ever since. I am afraid of what my size would be in that comparison - perhaps triple extra plus times four...no wait I am going to go with my smile...and that is just the perfect curve... We all come in different sizes and shapes and beauty shines from the inside out... Hugs :-)

  12. Robyn is gorgeous, I wish I ever looked that good in a bathing suit. The last message is one I've always tried to keep in mind. Early on I knew I wouldn't be the prettiest or have the best makeup/hair/clothes or whatever, but I could always have a smile.

    1. I agree Meg...Robyn is gorgeous and I would love to look as good as she does in anything!

Ya know, I went to high school with a girl who went on to represent our state in the Miss America pageant and even though most people thought she was beautiful, I didn't because she was self-centered, cruel, petty and just pure D vicious at times.

I am sure you are beautiful!
