Waves

Dawn Curl Salt Creek

All of the breathtaking long-exposure photographs of waves we are about to show you have been taken by the talented photographer, David Orias. The title of this photograph is pretty self-explanatory, as it was taken at dawn at Salt Creek near Laguna, California. It is no surprise that the ocean looks at its best when it is underneath a pastel-hued sunset! We love how serene the ocean seems, except for that one breaking wave. Breathtaking indeed! via http://500px.com/

Thick Crest

Just take a look at the amazing movements of the water! Not only do we love this photograph for its unique long-exposure capture of a rolling wave, but we also find the colors to be vivid and mesmerizing! Although the crest of the wave appears to be full of violent and fast motion, the rest of the ocean looks almost serene! via http://500px.com/

Red Dawn

There's something very beautiful about the way the ocean can reflect a vibrant sunset. In this photograph, the photographer provides the caption: "Dawn light illuminates the wave as it breaks upon the shore." Stunning! Don't you just love the long-exposure capture of the top of the crest of the wave? It almost looks like mist! via http://500px.com/

Golden Wave

The photographer provides a bit of a back-story for this photograph, explaining: "During local fires, smoke in the air created unusual light that is reflected off the water of this wave as it breaks near the breakwater in Santa Barbara." We love the orange glow of the water in this image, and the perfect capture of the wave just before it breaks. via http://500px.com/

Split Crest

You'll notice this wave is quite different to the other waves seen so far, and this because it is a split crest. You can see how the crest indents in the middle and almost appears to be two separate waves. At first glance, you would be forgiven for not thinking this was a wave. It has an otherworldly look about it, doesn't it? via http://500px.com/

Golden Wall

The photographer states: "Bright reflection of a rising sun creates a dazzling golden streak across the face of the wave." The first thing we noticed about this photograph was its brilliant and vibrant streak, and we can only imagine how beautiful the sun must have been that day to have such an amazing effect on the ocean! via http://500px.com/

Twisting

It isn't hard to see why this photograph by David Orias is titled 'Twisting'. The photographer provides a caption, explaining: "A slow shutter blur as a surfer twists on the wave." This photograph really captures the fury of the wave, as well as the speed and agility of the surfer. The long-exposure also creates an interesting effect on the sprays of water. via http://500px.com/

Pink Glow

This stunning photograph really caught our attention because of its beautiful, soft colors. David Orias states, "Changing light conditions create different colors reflecting off the face of the wave as it breaks onto the shore." There's a reason why this photograph has almost had 1,000 likes, and that's because it's spectacular of course! via http://500px.com/

Wind Blown Spray

"Waves can travel thousands of miles across the open ocean. They rise briefly, crest and I am there to document their short life span of beauty," states photographer David Orias. We think he has really captured the beauty of this photograph in the way he describes it. Who knew he could be a poet too? Certainly not us! Is there anything that this talented guy can't do... via http://500px.com/

Sweeping Arc Across The Wave

We also love this photograph that captures a long-exposure of a talented surfer in action! The photographer explains this photograph, stating: "Taylor Knox gracefully sweeps across the face of this wave in Hawaii." Just look at how crystal clear the ocean is in this photograph! We can only imagine how much fun this surfer was having. via http://500px.com/

Follow The Leader

Orias explains: "I try to find the ordinary in an extraordinary moment." We love how this photograph captures the ocean spray as the wave breaks. via http://500px.com/

Blue Curl

This stunning photograph was taken by David Orias at West Beach in Santa Barbara, California. The texture of the water in this image almost seems to be solid, as though you can brush your hand against it without breaking the water's surface. David Orias is extremely talented at capturing the serenity of the ocean. via http://500px.com/

Riding The Wave

The caption of this photograph explains: "Three pelicans ride the air over a wave at dawn in Ventura, California." We particularly like the photographs that contain birds in them, as it shows an extra element of nature and the interactions it has with the ocean. Ocean spray captured in long-exposure is especially impressive, as it takes on a soft and dreamy quality. via http://500px.com/

Optical Illusion

We can definitely understand why this photograph is titled 'Optical Illusion' - it hardly looks like the ocean at all! So why does it look like this, you ask? The photographer sheds some light on the 'illusion': "It is actually a wave photo, but it is flipped upside down to make it appear that it is a river running down a little rapid." via http://500px.com/

Glowing Barrel

This photograph is pretty unique - it is one of the only long-exposure photographs to capture a barrel wave, also known as a tube. Taken at a beach in Southern California, this photograph also managed to capture the brilliant colors of the water at dawn. How tranquil it looks! One thing is also for certain - David Orias is a very talented photographer indeed! via http://500px.com/
