This man owned & drove the same car for…
82 YEARS!
Can you imagine even having the same car for 82 years? I thought I was doing good with the same car for a bit over 15 years!
Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield, MA ) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Piccadilly-P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928.
He drove it up until his death last year…at the age of 102!!!
He was the oldest living owner of a car that was purchased new.
Just thought you'd like to see it.
It was donated to a Springfield museum after his death.
It has 1,070,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition (82 years). That's approximately 13,048 miles per year (1087 per month).
1,070,000 miles, not kilometers!!
Wow!
Amazing and it is a good looking car!
ReplyDeleteMeredith

Hmm I haven't owned a car more than 4 years. At 200000 miles they start falling apart.
ReplyDeleteGot a point Rose...I've owned mine for just over 15 years and she's got almost 200,000 miles on her...have slowed down on mileage since I've been working from home rather than traveling 120 miles round trip. Not looking forward to having car payments again. :(

He must not have driven in the DC area much...he would have been rear-ended and/or T-boned least a dozen times in 82 years...
ReplyDeleteLOL Autumn...not only the DC area. ;)

Oh gosh what an amazing tale. I can't imagine getting that old, never mind putting my dubious driving skills out there for that long!
ReplyDeletelove Jan.xx
LOL Jan...you are definitely going to get that old and older! If you can't drive by then, we'll send Ami to come get you. ;)

Wow fantastic! Our last van's doors needed to be tied shut using a rope across the front seats from door to door.
ReplyDeleteLOL Minelle...so when someone gets in to your van, they feel as if they are being kidnapped. ;)
