Welcome to my little corner of the world where you never know what you will find! It could be anything from a joke to a funny picture to a personal rant to a favorite recipe to an awesome quote to any random "bright idea" that pops into my mind.

O Christmas Tree O Christmas Tree
UPDATE from Katie: Her mom is eating a little but still confused a bit with some blurry vision and very tired. She is doing better but still got a long way to go. Rob is going to have to leave tomorrow but is taking very good care of Katie while he’s there. And I am sure he will leave her with orders to take care of herself!
Or maybe I’ll just leave it in your bed!

The Blasted Elf along with Katie and Queenie Updates
Katie UPDATE: Katie's mom is doing a bit better and has been able to speak to Katie’s dad by phone which comforts them both. I know her improvement is due to all the prayers, well wishes, healing, energy, positive thoughts, and blessings everyone has been sending. Thank you so much for continuing to send them.
Now that her Rob is with her, Katie can share some of the burden she’s been shouldering and hopefully get some rest.

Queenie UPDATE: I received an email from Queenie today and she gave me permission to share parts of it with all y’all:
“I think I'm doing pretty well actually. As Jerry Garcia once said 'what a long, strange trip it's been.' LOL, pretty dramatic I guess but so true. From the time I get up in the morning until the time I go to bed, it seems like I'm 'fighting cancer' in one way or another.
I also take probably 15 different daily supplements/herbs handpicked for their cancer killing abilities. I've eaten more kale/broccoli/spinach/carrots, etc. in the past few months than I think I have in my entire life. I wash/scrub 5 pound bags of carrots and then juice them everyday. I make smoothies with organic berries/spinach. I make 'green' drinks. I monitor my ph and try to keep it high. I do a few other things I never thought I would, but those are probably best not mentioning. Very undignified :(
I don't know the last time I had sugar! Or junk food! I miss them too! LOL!
I may not be going the conventional 'expected' route, but make no mistake, I AM fighting this thing just as hard as I possibly can. Dawn to dusk and every waking moment. I believe this battle could still go either way. I do believe that so far, I am holding my own and I have no regrets about the path I chose. Realistically, I know if all this doesn't work, this will be my last Christmas, and while I would very much prefer to be here with my family/friends, if God has other ideas, I'm okay with that too. But, it won't be for lack of effort on my part!!”
I know that all the prayers, blessings, healing energy and positive thoughts we’ve been sending to Queenie are helping her.
*********************************************
I will continue to share information as I receive it. If you have updates regarding any of our absent friends that you want shared, please feel free to send them to me.

I have three different elf names…not really fond of any of them so think I’ll just keep my own name.

Update re: Katie and A Christmas Poem
Katie's mom has a head injury and some minor fractures...of course, no fracture is ever 'minor' but they do not require surgical intervention. The good new is that she is being moved out of ICU tonight. Having said that, she still does have quite a long road to full recovery.
Katie sends her sincere thanks for all the many prayers, well wishes, healing, energy, positive thoughts, and blessings that have been sent and truly believes they are helping. So I'm asking that you continue to send them for Katie, her mom and her dad. As I receive more information, I will share it here.
I shared this poem on Facebook last week. It's been around for a long time but I still love it and think it is very much worth sharing again.
The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
M y wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled there in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts...
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "It’s really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl' on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ',
And now it is my turn; and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures; he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother…
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."
"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."
Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women and their families for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Feel free to share this with whoever you want.
Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

Urgent Request and Hallelujah!
Her dad is in a care home and after her mom left to go home and rest a bit this afternoon, she was in a car accident and has been taken to ICU. For those of you outside the US, ICU is Intensive Care Unit for the most critically ill/injured patients.
Katie found out when the police contacted her as she left the care home to go take her to dinner.
Please send prayers, healing energy, positive thoughts, blessings, whatever you can for Katie's mom.
Will keep you updated as I receive more information.
Han posted a song by Leonard Cohen a few days ago. One of my favorite Cohen songs is "Hallelujah". Around the same time, the following video by Celtic Thunder's Neil Byrne, Keith Harkin and Ryan Kelly
was posted on Facebook.
If you can't view the video, here is the YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0mcxhn5yXE
Here is one of my favorite versions sung by kd lang in 2006 at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame induction of Leonard Cohen. If you watch all the way to the end, you will see Cohen's appreciation of how she performed the song.

This video is of a 9 year old girl dancing to a version of "Hallelujah"...her performance is breathtaking!

They Walk Among Us
I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman (Carol Shea-Porter) ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn't get messed up by being near the window. On an airplane?!?
I got a call from a Kansas Congressman's (Moore) staffer (Howard Bauleke), who wanted to go to Cape Town.
I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information, and then he interrupted me with, ''I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Cape Town is in Massachusetts ...''
Without trying to make him look stupid, I calmly explained, ''Cape Cod is in Massachusetts, Cape Town is in South Africa...''
His response…click…
A senior Vermont Congressman (Bernie Sanders) called, furious about a Florida package we did.
I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando.
He said he was expecting an ocean-view room.
I tried to explain that's not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state.
He replied, 'Don't lie to me! I looked on the map, and Florida is a very THIN state!'' OMG!!!
I got a call from a lawmaker's wife (Landra Reid) who asked, ''Is it possible to see England from Canada?''
I said, ''No.''
She said, ''But they look so close on the map'' OMG, again!
An aide for a cabinet member (Janet Napolitano) once called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas.
I pulled up the reservation and noticed he had only a one hour layover in Dallas.
When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, ''I heard Dallas was a big airport, and we will need a car to drive between gates to save time.'' Aghhhh
An Illinois Congresswoman (Jan Schakowsky) called last week.
She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:30 a.m., and got to Chicago at 8:33 a.m.
I explained that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois, but she couldn't understand the concept of time zones.
Finally, I told her the plane went fast, and she bought that. Seriously?!?
A New York lawmaker, (Jerrold Nadler) called and asked, ''Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to whom?''
I said, 'No, why do you ask?'
He replied, ''Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I'm overweight…I think that's very rude!''
After putting him on hold for a minute, while I looked into it. (I was dying laughing).
I came back and explained the city code for Fresno, Ca. is (FAT - Fresno Air Terminal), and the airline was just putting a destination tag on his luggage.
A Senator John Kerry aide (Lindsay Ross) called to inquire about a trip package to Hawaii.
After going over all the cost info, she asked, ''Would it be cheaper to fly to California and then take the train to Hawaii?''
I just got off the phone with a freshman Congressman, Bobby Bright from Ala. who asked, ''How do I know which plane to get on?''
I asked him what exactly he meant, to which he replied, ''I was told my flight number is 823, but none of these planes have numbers on them.''
Senator Dianne Feinstein called and said, ''I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola, Florida . Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?''
I asked if she meant fly to Pensacola and fly on a commuter plane.
She said, ''Yeah, whatever, smarty!''
Mary Landrieu, La. Senator, called and had a question about the documents she needed in order to fly to China.
After a lengthy discussion about passports, I reminded her that she needed a visa.
"Oh, no I don't. I've been to China many times and never had to have one of those.''
I double checked and sure enough, her stay required a visa.
When I told her this she said, ''Look, I've been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express!''
A New Jersey Congressman (John Adler) called to make reservations, ''I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York.''
I was at a loss for words. Finally, I said, ''Are you sure that's the name of the town?''
'Yes, what flights do you have?'' replied the man.
After some searching, I came back with, ''I'm sorry, sir, I've looked up every airport code in the country and can't find a rhino anywhere."
''The man retorted, ''Oh, don't be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!''
So I scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, ''You don't mean Buffalo, do you?''
The reply? ''Whatever! I knew it was a big animal.''
Could ANYONE be this DUMB?
YES, THEY WALK AMONG US, ARE IN POLITICS, AND THEY CONTINUE TO BREED!
I don't write it, I just offer it for your consideration. Like manure, you just gotta spread it around.

We think hilarious might be overstating the matter somewhat, don't you?via http://www.etsy.com/
