Life is Too Short

 

 

Out to Dinner

A little old couple walked slowly into a McDonalds one cold winter evening.  They looked out of place amid the young families and young couples eating there that night. 


Some of the customers looked admiringly at them.  You could tell what the admirers were thinking. "Look, there is a couple who has been through a lot together, probably for 60 years or more!"


The little old man walked up to the cash register, placed his order with no hesitation and then paid for their meal. 



The couple took a table near the back wall and started taking food off the tray. 

There was one hamburger, one order of French fries and one drink. 

The little old man unwrapped the plain hamburger and carefully cut it in half.

He placed one half in front of the little old lady.

Then he carefully counted out the French fries, divided them in two piles and neatly placed one pile in front of her.

He took a sip of the drink, and then she took a sip as the man began to eat his few bites.



Again, you could tell what people around the old couple were thinking. "That poor old couple."



As the old man began to eat his French fries, one young man stood and came over to the old couples' table.

He politely offered to buy another meal.

The old man replied that they were just fine.

They were used to sharing everything.




Then the crowd noticed that the little old lady hadn't eaten a thing...she just sat there watching him eat and occasionally sipped some of the drink.



Again, the young man came over and begged them to let him buy them something to eat.

This time, the lady explained that no, they were used to sharing.

As the little old man finished eating and was wiping his face neatly with a napkin, the young man could stand it no longer and asked again.

After being politely refused again, he finally asked the little old lady, "Ma'am, why aren't you eating. You said that you share everything. What is it that you are waiting for?"


She answered....

On and On

An attorney arrived home late, after a very tough day trying to get a stay of execution for a client who was due to be hanged for murder at midnight. His last minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling worn out and depressed.





As soon as he walked through the door at home, his wife started on him about, 'What time of night to be getting home is this? Where have you been?' 'Dinner is cold and I'm not reheating it'.  And on and on and on...





Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he went and poured himself a shot of whiskey and headed off for a long hot soak in the bathtub, pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks as he dragged himself up the stairs.








While he was in the bath, the phone rang.







The wife answered and was told that her husband's client, James Wright, had been granted a stay of execution after all. Wright would not be hanged tonight.







Finally realizing what a terrible day he must have had, she decided to go upstairs and give him the good news.







As she opened the bathroom door, she was greeted by the sight of her husband, bent over naked, drying his legs and feet.







'They're not hanging Wright tonight,' she said. To which he whirled around and screamed, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WOMAN, DON'T YOU EVER STOP?

Some Things Are More Important

Son: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?" 

Dad: "Yeah sure, what is it?"... 

Son: "Daddy, how much do you make an hour?" 

Dad: "That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?" 

Son: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?" 

Dad: "If you must know, I make $100 an hour." 

Son: "Oh! (With his head down). 

Son: "Daddy, may I please borrow $50?" 

The father was furious. 

Dad: "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior."
 
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. 

 
The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money? 

 
After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:
 
Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $ 50 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door. 

 
Dad: "Are you asleep, son?"
 
Son: "No daddy, I'm awake".
 
Dad: "I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $50 you asked for."
 
The little boy sat straight up, smiling.
 
Son: "Oh, thank you daddy!"
 
Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father. 

 
Dad: "Why do you want more money if you already have some?"
 
Son: "Because I didn't have enough, but now I do. 

"Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you." 

 
The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness. 


It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. 


Do remember to share that $100 worth of your time with someone you love? If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family and friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family. 

Some things are more important.

Gossip

Mildred, the church gossip, and self-appointed monitor of the church's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business.

Several members did not approve of her extra-curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused Frank, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon.

She emphatically told Frank (and several others within ear shot) that everyone seeing his pickup parked there "WOULD KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING!"

Frank, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away. He didn't explain, defend, or deny. He said nothing.

Later that evening, Frank quietly parked his pickup in front of Mildred's house. Walked home and left it there all night.

Dawn Curl Salt Creek

All of the breathtaking long-exposure photographs of waves we are about to show you have been taken by the talented photographer, David Orias. The title of this photograph is pretty self-explanatory, as it was taken at dawn at Salt Creek near Laguna, California. It is no surprise that the ocean looks at its best when it is underneath a pastel-hued sunset! We love how serene the ocean seems, except for that one breaking wave. Thick Crest

Just take a look at the amazing movements of the water! Not only do we love this photograph for its unique long-exposure capture of a rolling wave, but we also find the colors to be vivid and mesmerizing! Red Dawn

There's something very beautiful about the way the ocean can reflect a vibrant sunset. In this photograph, the photographer provides the caption: "Dawn light illuminates the wave as it breaks upon the shore." Stunning! Golden Wave

Split Crest

You'll notice this wave is quite different to the other waves seen so far, and this because it is a split crest. You can see how the crest indents in the middle and almost appears to be two separate waves. At first glance, you would be forgiven for not thinking this was a wave. Golden Wall

The photographer states: "Bright reflection of a rising sun creates a dazzling golden streak across the face of the wave." The first thing we noticed about this photograph was its brilliant and vibrant streak, and we can only imagine how beautiful the sun must have been that day to have such an amazing effect on the ocean! via http://500px.com/

Twisting

It isn't hard to see why this photograph by David Orias is titled 'Twisting'. The photographer provides a caption, explaining: "A slow shutter blur as a surfer twists on the wave." This photograph really captures the fury of the wave, as well as the speed and agility of the surfer. This stunning photograph really caught our attention because of its beautiful, soft colors. David Orias states, "Changing light conditions create different colors reflecting off the face of the wave as it breaks onto the shore." Wind Blown Spray

"Waves can travel thousands of miles across the open ocean. They rise briefly, crest and I am there to document their short life span of beauty," states photographer David Orias. Sweeping Arc Across The Wave

We also love this photograph that captures a long-exposure of a talented surfer in action! The photographer explains this photograph, stating: "Taylor Knox gracefully sweeps across the face of this wave in Hawaii." Just look at how crystal clear the ocean is in this photograph! This stunning photograph was taken by David Orias at West Beach in Santa Barbara, California. The texture of the water in this image almost seems to be solid, as though you can brush your hand against it without breaking the water's surface. Riding The Wave

The caption of this photograph explains: "Three pelicans ride the air over a wave at dawn in Ventura, California." We particularly like the photographs that contain birds in them, as it shows an extra element of nature and the interactions it has with the ocean. Optical Illusion

We can definitely understand why this photograph is titled 'Optical Illusion' - it hardly looks like the ocean at all! So why does it look like this, you ask? Glowing Barrel

This photograph is pretty unique - it is one of the only long-exposure photographs to capture a barrel wave, also known as a tube. Taken at a beach in Southern California, this photograph also managed to capture the brilliant colors of the water at dawn. How tranquil it looks! Captain Bravado

Once upon a time, there was an officer of the Royal Navy named Captain Bravado who showed no fear when facing his enemies.

One day, while sailing the Seven Seas, his lookout spotted a pirate ship approaching, and the crew became frantic.  Captain Bravado bellowed, "Bring me my red shirt!"

The first mate quickly retrieved the captain's red shirt, and while wearing the brightly colored frock, the Captain led his crew into battle and defeated the mighty pirates.

That evening, all the men sat around on deck recounting the triumph of earlier.  One of them asked the Captain, "Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before battle?"

The Captain replied, "If I were to be wounded in the attack, the shirt would not show my blood.  Thus, you men would continue to fight, unafraid." 

All of the men sat and marveled at the courage of such a manly man's man.

As dawn came the next morning, the lookout spotted not one, not two, but TEN pirate ships approaching.   The crew stared in worshipful silence at the Captain and waited for his usual orders. 

 Captain Bravado gazed with steely eyes upon the vast armada arrayed against his ship, and without fear, turned and calmly shouted, "Get me my brown pants."

1. Catacombs in Paris, France
 

 It’s an underground tomb containing the remains of about 6 million people. It’s located south of the former city gate and actually occupies the place of what used to be Paris’s stone mines.


2. Pripyat, Ukraine

Once the ninth nuclear city in Soviet Union for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, it’s now abandoned due to the Chernobyl disaster that took place on April 26th, 1986 and forced all the 49,360 population to vacate the city.


3. Aokigahara forest, Japan

It lies at the northwest base of Mount Fuji in Japan and is historically linked to demons in Japanese mythology. What is more unusual about this forest, also known as the Sea of Trees, is its being a popular place for suicides. Despite the signs in Japanese and English, urging people to seek help and reconsider their actions, about 100 suicides happen there every year.
 
 
4. Underground vaults, Edinburgh, Scotland

There represent a series of chambers formed in the arches of the South Bridge in Edinburgh. The bridge was completed in 1788 and for over 30 years was used to store illegal material such as the bodies of people killed by serial killers Burke and Hare for medical experiments.Paranormal activity has been frequently reported and many people claim to have had ghost encounters there.


5. Easter Island, Chile

It’s a Polynesian island located in the Pacific Ocean.It is also one of the most remote inhibited islands in the world. It owes its name to the first recorded European visitor, the Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen who encountered the island on Easter Sunday, 1722. Easter Island is world famous for its large stone statues called moai. The statues were carved around 1100-1680 CE and it still remains a mystery how these supposedly primitive people were able to do that immense job without special technology.
