Trauma

I have found that many of us in blogland deal with PTSD, either personally, via our spouses/significant others or because of someone we care about.

PTSD is like many illnesses…invisible…which makes it more difficult to explain and/or understand…So I thought I would post this to help those who might need a bit of encouragement or something to help explain their issue to others as well as those who need guidance in how to deal with someone suffering from PTSD.

As you can see, PTSD is not strictly an issue for military personnel survivors but also for survivors of rape, abuse, and violence…actually, any traumatic event.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this Cat and helping to shed some light and understanding. PTSD is unfortunately often misunderstood.

    1. You are very welcome, Roz...you are so right...PTSD is often misunderstood and people react so badly to those who suffer.

  3. Reading this made me cry but that's expected.

One thing that did stand out for me was the third from the bottom. Sometimes I want to physically run, but when it gets really bad, I internally run. I can feel the shifting and restlessness in my mind until I'm sucked down the rabbit hole. I can be gone for hours at a time and it'll feel like minutes for me. Which is why I'm on a decent dosage of klonopin to keep that under control. But I wanted to point out that running isn't always a physical symptom and it's very difficult to think rationally out of the situation when it gets that bad.

    1. I'm so sorry that my post upset you JAS! Thank you for pointing out that running can be retreating emotionally and mentally. I know it is so difficult to be rational when you are triggered..not easy at all. My hope in putting up this post is just to bring awareness to people that PTSD is not something you 'get over', it's not someone being a 'drama queen', not someone looking for attention or any of the other stupidity I hear. Sending lots of prayers, healing energy and positive thoughts your way.

  4. Cat that has really answered some of my questions, thank you for sharing. I suffer from PTSD and like JAS I withdraw when there are triggers. Coping better these days with Bears help though.

    1. So sorry you suffer from PTSD, Lindy...happy if I was able to help. The two websites listed on the bottom of the Do's and Don'ts jpg have some very good resources to help you. Very happy to hear that Bear is able to help you cope. Remember, my friend, one day at a time...sometimes one moment at a time.
