Welcome to my little corner of the world where you never know what you will find! It could be anything from a joke to a funny picture to a personal rant to a favorite recipe to an awesome quote to any random "bright idea" that pops into my mind.

Things My Mother Taught Me...
My mother taught me IRONY –
"Keep laughing and I'll give you something to cry about."
My mother taught me TO APPRECIATE WHAT I HAVE –
"It's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick."
My mother taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE –
"If you're going to kill each other off, do it outside - I just finished cleaning!"
My mother taught me RELIGION –
"You better pray that will come out of the carpet."
My mother taught me about TIME TRAVEL:
"If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!"
My mother taught me LOGIC:
"Because I said so, that's why."
My mother taught me FORESIGHT –
"Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident."
My mother taught me OSMOSIS –
"Shut your mouth and eat your supper!"
My mother taught me LOVE –
"You know that whatever happens, I'll always stand behind you."
Hope this gives you a bit of a grin and that you are enjoying your weekend.
Awwww - Cat this was so sweet.
ReplyDeleteMy Mother honestly told me this:
"Never let your husband see you sitting on the toilet."
It has been awfully close at times.....but a screaming conniption sends Ian scrambling and through illness, pregnancies, etc.... my toilette time has been sans Ian. (who ironically will sit on the toilet with the entire family in the room if we didn't scatter)
Very nice Cat
OMG Lillie. Seriously? She told you that? I prefer my privacy but have never had a conniption fit if someone walked in on me. :) As far as Ian's behavior - think it must be a "guy thing" - have had the same "not so sweet" experience. ;)
DeleteTake care,
Cat
As always Cat you bring what we need! If I wasn't too tired I'd share a few of my mom's isms!
ReplyDeleteThanks Minelle. Sorry you're so tired - bet your mother had some goodies. :)
DeleteGet some rest!
Cat
One of my Mom's favourites ----> DO AS I SAY. NOT AS I DO
ReplyDeleteThat was actually one of my Dad's favorites Wilma. :)
DeleteTake care,
Cat
"If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". was one of my favorite and I wish I practiced it more often.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - I did recognize many of them.
That was one of my Mom's also sunnygirl but then her sister would say "If you can't say anything nice about someone, come sit by me." About lost it when I heard that line in the original "Steel Magnolias"! :D
DeleteTake care,
Cat
These are so my Mama. Also, "If you lay down with dogs; you get up with fleas". "You are known by the company you keep". "Be careful what you wish for". Thank you for the smiles!
ReplyDeleteHey Irishey? (assuming that's you) - If I complained about something a friend did, my grandmother (Dad's side) would always say "Well what do you expect? If you lay down with dogs; you'll get up with fleas." :)
DeleteTake care,
Cat
Nope, not me this time. Although these are some of the things my mom says!
DeleteOkay, Anonymous, which one of us are you?!!!
Irishey
@Anon 21.Oct 2:31p - I apologize for confusing you with Irishey. Still appreciate your comments.
DeleteBlessings,
Cat
Ah, education in America and Europa doesn't differ as much as I thought. They all sound familiar!
ReplyDeleteThink it must be the Mom mojo Bas - ya know - similar to the HoH mojo? :D
DeleteTake care,
Cat
LOL.. Laughter is a good medicine... Thank you!- Belle L.
ReplyDeleteHappy to give you a laugh Belle!
DeleteTake care,
Cat
I HATED to hear, "Because I said so!" from my mother in answer to my incessant, "Why?" I'm sure my kids are just as find of my saying that. Ha!
ReplyDeleteClean underwear... Lol! That used to "gross me out" to hear that. Both my mom and grandma used to say that, and all the rest of these, too. I'm guilty of several, actually. ;-)
Irishey
Yup - this is you. ;-)
DeleteHow many times have you said something Irishey only to stop and say "OMG - I'm becoming my mother!" :)
Take care,
Cat
Not nearly often enough. Lol! I know what you mean though. When I was a young mother, it used to stop me in my tracks to hear some of my parents' and grandparents' sayings coming out of my mouth.
DeleteI soon learned I can only aspire to become more like my mother. She truly is a wonderful person, much nicer than me, more self-disciplined, more giving, more forgiving, more accepting, warmer. I inherited too much of my dad's fiery temperament. ;-)
Irishey
No need to feel alone Irishey - I inherited my dad's fiery temperament also and yes, it has gotten me into trouble. ;-)
DeleteTake care,
Cat
Sorry Cat, I'm anon.10/21. Old habits are hard to break and repeating things my parents said just seems wrong. LOL It is even worse hearing one child say something I say to a sibling then cringing that they did it. Some things don't change; we blame it on a "bad gene" in our family. Have a good evening, Lucy
ReplyDeleteNo apologies necessary Lucy. "Bad gene" hmmm - think I'm going to have to borrow that line from you - that's a great one. :)
DeleteBlessings,
Cat
